To thoroughly implement the spirit of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 15th Committee of Southeast University, actively integrate into the university's "Mingshi Strategy" implementation process, steadily advance the new "Three-Step" strategic plan, and accelerate the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, the School of Mechanical Engineering warmly held a "New Year Tea Party for Young Faculty" on January 30, 2026, in the Nangao Hall. This event aimed to further strengthen intellectual exchange and academic mutual learning among young faculty, stimulate innovation vitality, promote interdisciplinary integration and organized collaborative research, and consolidate the young talent foundation of the School of Mechanical Engineering for building a new disciplinary development pattern characterized by "world-class in all fields, top-tier in engineering, cross-disciplinary leadership, and emerging excellence."
The tea party was hosted by Li Yongzhe, Director of the Young Faculty Work Committee. Attendees included Dean Fei Qingguo, Associate Dean Liu Xiaojun, and Associate Dean Sun Dongke. The atmosphere was warm and lively. Young faculty spoke freely on topics such as personal growth, research directions, team collaboration, and serving major national strategic needs, fully demonstrating the mission consciousness and enterprising spirit of the new generation of mechanical engineers at Southeast University—building reputation through science and serving the nation through talents.
Dean Fei Qingguo first extended New Year's greetings to all young faculty and sincerely thanked them for their positive contributions to the school and the university in teaching, research, and other work. He noted that since the 14th Five-Year Plan, the school's undertakings have progressed steadily with initial results. In the New Year, the school will deeply implement the development strategy of "world-leading disciplines, international forefront," focusing on attracting top talents, building strategic platforms, and tackling major scientific and technological challenges. It will continue to produce landmark achievements, comprehensively enhance the international influence of mechanical engineering disciplines, and inject strong momentum into the construction of "double first-class" initiatives.
Subsequently, six newly recruited faculty members—Tang Zhiqiang, He Dong, Chen Tianrong, Li Bingbing, Weng Xiaohui, and Nan Jiangfeng—introduced their backgrounds, research directions, and work plans, demonstrating high academic enthusiasm and clear development visions, laying a good foundation for cross-team collaboration. During the free exchange session, participants engaged in heated discussions on topics such as balancing teaching and research, cutting-edge hotspots, National Natural Science Foundation of China applications, and research team formation. Young faculty representatives, including Liu Xiaochao, Pei Xianjun, and Liu Xingtao, shared their practical experiences in teaching and research, encouraging new faculty to actively align with national industrial needs, familiarize themselves with the evaluation system, bravely explore "uncharted territories" in scientific research, and strive for breakthroughs in original innovation.
This event effectively promoted mutual understanding among young faculty, further strengthening their sense of belonging and team cohesion. Standing at a new starting point, all young faculty of the School of Mechanical Engineering will work hand in hand, forge ahead with dedication, and drive the high-quality development of the school with renewed enthusiasm and high morale, writing a new chapter in accelerating the construction of world-class disciplines with Chinese characteristics.
